Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif; the book compared to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif; the movie
Have you
ever waited in anticipation for the movie of your favorite book?
If you have read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
and watched the Percy Jackson movie, then you know what a disappointment the
movie is compared to the book.
Although they bear some minor similarities, the differences between Percy
Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Percy Jackson movie are
remarkable.
To begin, Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief and the Percy Jackson movie have some basic similarities. What I mean is that the similarities are
very minor and unimportant. For
example, in both Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Percy Jackson
movie Percy goes on the quest to get the Master Bolt for Zeus and to save his
mom from Hades. He travels with his
friends, Annabeth and Grover, across the country to Hollywood, California.
Furthermore, Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief is really funny and filled with adventure.
By this I mean that Rick Riordan uses good writing to make Percy
Jackson and the Lightning Thief interesting to all readers.
For instance, Rick Riordan uses details to describe the characters and
Camp Half-Blood. In Percy Jackson and
the Lightning Thief Percy needs to save his mother from Hades and retrieve the
Master Bolt for Zeus.
Additionally, the Percy Jackson movie
is missing many details and events that were included in the book.
To clarify, lots of important events are not in the movie that were in
the book. For example, in the movie
Percy goes to Olympus to return the lightning bolt to Zeus but Luke is there
and fights Percy. Percy wins the fight
and Luke disappears. In the book Percy
finishes his quest and goes back to camp.
At camp Luke tries to kill Percy with a scorpion that has deadly
venom. Percy is saved by Chiron
though.
Another thing that was changed in the movie was
that the characters were portrayed differently in the movie.
What I mean is that the actors didn’t resemble the characters from the
Lightning Thief. For example, the actress that played Annabeth Chase had
straight, dark brown hair when in the book Annabeth had curly, blonde hair in
the book. This was a big disappointment to a lot of fans. Plus, in Percy
Jackson and the Lightning Thief Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were 12 years old
but in the movie they were teenagers.
Finally, the plot was changed! I mean, the main idea of the story was
changed. In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Percy is gong to Hollywood,
California to retrieve the Master Bolt for Zeus and rescue his mother. In the
Percy Jackson movie goes on a quest to find these magic pearls so he can get to
the Underworld to save his mom and get the lightning bolt.
It is clear that Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Percy
Jackson movie have a lot of differences. This is very upsetting to many fans.
Clearly, the movie should have matched up with the book some more. Percy
Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Percy Jackson movie have some minor
similarities but a lot of major differences.
