Is the Death Penalty a justified punishment?
How do you feel about criminals committing murder? Not good right? How do you
feel about these murderers being sentenced to death by the government? With the
death penalty in place many people are killed. As you can see, the death
penalty is a cruel way to punish someone and should not be permitted in
America.
First off, to kill somebody with lethal injection can cost a lot of money.
By this I mean it is expensive to kill criminals with lethal injection. It is
a 2 million dollar process. For example, in 2005, 60 people were killed with
lethal injection in the U.S.A. Imagine how expensive that was!
Secondly, capital punishment does not lower violent crime rates. What I
mean is the death penalty does not scare people into doing the right thing.
For example, when Adam Lanza broke into Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown,
Connecticut and killed 20 kids and 6 adults, he killed himself afterwards.
Adam Lanza was insane and he did not care if he killed 26 people and himself.
Why would he care if he was sentenced to death? Many people who commit these
violent crimes are like Adam Lanza, they do not care if they die too. In
addition some people will kill themselves because they are guilty about what
they have done and can't live with themselves.
Finally, innocent people are killed by the death penalty. To clarify, many
innocent people are killed by mistake. For instance, if an innocent person is
put to death by capital punishment, then later the government finds out that
they were innocent, that person can't be brought back to life. Sometimes
sentences can be reversed if it is not to late.
Obviously, capital punishment is unjustified and it is unquestionable that
the death penalty should be prohibited in the U.S.A. The process costs 2
million dollars. Most criminals that commit such terrible crimes will kill
themselves anyway because they are insane or won't be able to live with
themselves so death penalty would be useless. Also, many innocent people are
killed by mistake. Clearly, capital punishment should not be permitted in the
U.S.A. because it is a cruel, unjustified way to punish somebody.
